Mr Swan's uphill battle to save swans

"In terms of awareness, it's much better now. I get volunteers and members from all over the country, even from Shanghai Tongji University," notes Yuan. Some environmental protection projects are underway, although not specifically for swans, he says. It all helps.

Although Yuan often shouts: "It is too heavy a burden for one person," he perseveres and asks his daughters to carry on his work. One is majoring in environmental protection and the other in law.

"They will continue my work to save swans," concludes Mr Swan.

The last wrenching scene in the film shows a dead swan. "They broke the wings, took the meat and just left it there," Mr Swan almost weeps.
