Synopsis:

In October 2000 Baili Hair Salon opened in Shenzhen. The owner, Zhang Hua came from a village in Quzhou , Zhejiang Province. She had been working in this field for ten years; it was the first time that she came to Shenzhen. In April 2001, Zhang Wei, Zhang Hua's second elder sister, ran away to Shenzhen with her 4-year-old daughter Bei'er. She told Zhang Hua she had been beaten by her ex-husband. Zhang Wei didn't dare to show up at the hair salon, so she rented a small room and led a hermit's life with Bei'er. Bei'er liked dancing, which was good entertainment for the clients.

When Bei'er was old enough for kindergarten, Zhang Wei didn't have enough money to send her there. Bei'er went out with her mother to deliver bag stuffers on the street in order to pay for her education. In 2002 Bei'er entered the Nation Children's Latin Dancing Competition and demonstrated her dancing talent. She won the championship. In the same year, Bei'er had to drop out. Zhang Wei went back to her hometown, Dakeng Village , with Bei'er and decided to let her study there.

The little girl cried when she said goodbye to her mother. Zhang Hua, the person who took Bei'er to Beijing , documented this story with her video camera in hand. This is her first documentary film. In Beijing , a girl called Bei'er is growing up.
