Synopsis:


    The Yao Nationality is an immemorial minority of China , who live in big mountains.

    The Yao Nationality's elder Pan Caiyou, 80-year-old is the last song king of the Yao Nationality. He has kept the songbooks from the ancestors. Copying books and singing are the greatest pleasure in his lifetime. But now, he is grieving that few people can sing the songs which spread for thousands years and have recorded the history, the culture, the life and the feelings.

    By chance, the songs of the Yao Nationality were recorded on CD, which were sung by his granddaughter Pan Qin. The songs spread outside the mountains and to the world. Grandpa had a hope. But the life in the mountains still went on. People were not care of the old songs, which made grandpa anxious. So he devoted great energies to hold a song party at his 80-year-old birthday. The party was not as lively as before. Grandpa has to gave the songbooks which he had collected for many years to his granddaughter.

    Though the granddaughter's dictation and her trips back to Yao mountains twice, the documentary shows the old, beautiful village and its mysterious life. The living songs of the Yao Nationality are the living history. An old culture leaves us far and far. The dialogue and collision between the history and the reality, the old and the modern, the nationality and the world, make people think a lot.
