Synopsis: Guan Chunqi is a pedicab rider in Beijing who comes from countryside. His youngest daughter Tongling studys in a primary school for migrant workers' children. His family live in the out-of-town area, where gather many other migrant workers. Tongling longs to visit the famous Tian'anmen, but Guan is unwilling to spend the money taking her there. However, Guan spends several hundred buying an English repeating machine for his second daughter and buying a medical insurance for Tongling. Tongling has no chance to get to know the city life. She and other children from the same families study and play in the place piled with castoff. The business of riding a pedicab becomes harder. Besides, there are many limitations on the peasants working in city. Guan and other riders feel very unsatisfied. The biggest problem they're facing is the future of their children. Realizing the big gap between city and countryside, they feel pessimistic. The houses the migrant workers live in are to be dismantled. Guan's family have to move. The school is also moved. Tongling's mother has gone back to the country to treat her illness |
